Hillside Innovation Academy School Uniform Policy: School Year 2025-2026

Uniform Description

As per Hillside Board of Education, uniforms are mandatory and must be worn daily to school (Board policy #5511). Uniforms help create a communal and academic environment, which minimizes a sense of social competition and/or distractions from the learning process.  Uniforms are to be neat, clean, and pressed daily. 

Scholars are NOT allowed to wear jeans, pants, or shorts that have jean-like material, jeggings, leggings, or the like.

SY2025-2026 Uniform Guidelines

  •   7th Graders - Grey, White, or Burgundy Shirt with Khaki pants/skirt/short (knee length)

  • 8th Graders - Black, Whit,e or Burgundy Shirt with Khaki pants/skirt/short (knee length)

  • Physical Education - Grey or Burgundy Sweatpants with shirt as noted above

    • Uniform Sweaters are highly recommended as the classrooms can get cool

    • Uniform Blazers are not required, but may take the place of a sweater

    • Sweaters/Hoodies must be a solid color without graphics, designs, or lettering
      (7th grade, Grey, White, or Burgundy and 8th grade Black, White, or Burgundy)

    • School logo is optional

    • Sneakers or shoes (no crocs or open-toe shoes)  

 In addition to the above uniform, scholars must also adhere to the dress code details below.  School administrators reserve the right to contact parents/guardians and exclude any scholar who does not meet the dress code and uniform standard.

  •   The shirt and/or blouse must meet the pants and/or jeans, trousers, slacks, skirts at the beltline.

  •   Open-toe shoes, slippers, and bare feet are not acceptable.

  • Clothing that is not clean or is excessively soiled is not acceptable.

  •   Any item which displays indecent writing, indecent pictures, or indecent slogans is not permitted.  Clothing that has any obscene writing or promotes suggestive, indecent, or unacceptable school behavior (whether stated or implied) is not allowed.

  •   Sunglasses without a prescription or medical excuse may not be worn in school.

  •   Clothing that reveals the stomach, undergarments, and buttocks is not permitted.

  •   Undershirts, pajamas, excessively ripped jeans (even if leggings are underneath), pants with holes, and or sweatpants with graphics or writing across the backside are not allowed. Sagging is not allowed and is a uniform violation.

  • Clothing or accessories that have any association with illegal substances, violence, or gangs are not allowed.

  •   Midriffs, tube-tops, strapless tops/dresses, halter-tops, tank-tops, camisoles, see-through articles, or articles that expose cleavage or stomach are not allowed.

  •   Clothing that is offensive to any nationality, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity is not allowed.

  •   Shorts and skirts should be no more than 3” above the knee, and solid uniform colors.

  • Clothing that is skintight or skirts that are too short are not allowed.  Ripped hems are not allowed on any clothing.

  •   Hats, scarves of any type, or any type of head covering are not to be worn in the school unless it is for religious reasons (e.g. Hijabs, Kufi, Yamaka, etc.).  Hats worn in school will count as a uniform violation and will be confiscated and returned to a parent.

Uniform Violations

  •   First offense – verbal warning and Class Dojo demerit

  •   Second offense – parent call and after-school detention

  • Third offense – parent call, uniform attire must be brought to school by the parent/guardian.

  •   Fourth offense - removal from school event/trip/activity, scholar will be sent home

 

Please note that repeated violations of the school uniform or the gym uniform may result in loss of privileges to participate in school events, dances, and field trips, inclusive of 8th-grade activities.
